Sophia Jin is a captivating singer and one of the winners of the Royal Academy of Music’s Early Music Prize. Known for her lively and engaging performances, she has enthralled audiences in both solo and choral settings.

Sophia began her musical journey at the Purcell School of Music in London and later studied at the Manhattan School of Music under the guidance of Catherine Malfitano. She recently completed her Master of Music at the Royal Academy of Music, where she studied with Giles Underwood and Iain Ledingham.

Her performances have graced prestigious venues including Wigmore Hall, Westminster Abbey, St. James’ Piccadilly, St. Martin-in-the-Fields in London, Symphony Hall in Birmingham, Rachmaninoff Hall in Moscow, and Carnegie Hall in New York. She has appeared in works such as

Bach’s Magnificat in D and St John Passion, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de confessore and Requiem, and Sir Karl Jenkins’s The Armed Man. Sophia has regularly performed as a soloist with the South Bucks Choral Society and is known for her flexibility and professionalism, frequently stepping in at short notice for solo engagements— including a recent performance in Sheerness. Her reliability and musical insight make her a sought-after performer for both scheduled and emergency appearances.

She has collaborated with distinguished conductors including Masaaki Suzuki, Peter Whelan, Jane Glover, and Eamonn Dougan. At the Royal Academy of Music’s Vocal Faculty Scenes, her versatility has shone through roles such as Pamina (The Magic Flute), Ilia (Idomeneo), and

Eurydice (Orpheus in the Underworld).

Her talent was recognised early on through multiple first prizes at festivals in the West Midlands and London. Internationally, she studied with Natalia Pustovaya of the Bolshoi at the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow and took part in a week-long seminar and workshop on the works of Adolf Hasse in Venice in November 2024, deepening her expertise in Baroque vocal music.

Beyond performance, Sophia is committed to music education and outreach, sharing her passion through workshops for primary and secondary school students and teaching piano. A multi-instrumentalist, she holds an ARSM diploma in violin and enjoys performing with chamber ensembles and orchestras across the UK and Europe.

As she embarks on the next chapter of her career, Sophia remains dedicated to vocal performance and continuing her exploration of the violin.
